The small group of men on the right are stood outside the passage leading to Willy Holts Billiard Hall. There were seven tables each side of the central alley with a door at the end with steps leading to Albert Terrace, this was handy if you were under sixteen and the police came in at the front.
There was a little office for the manager where you booked a table, He would switch
the lights on and off when your time was up. The cost in the 1940’s was five-pence for twenty minutes billiards and sixpence for thirty minutes snooker. The manager in the forties was Mr Herbert Smith.
